Types of Corvette Competition within NCCC

Types of Events:   There are seven (7) basic types of NCCC sanctioned Events with the Speed Event type being further divided into six (6) categories, some of which can be either High Speed or Low Speed.

 

Concours :  An event in which the Corvette is judged for cleanliness and workmanship.

 

Rallye:  An event in which the Corvette is driven on a public highway requiring that the driver and navigator follow a specified route and other instructions.  In this event, the car will be disqualified if the driver or navigator  receives a traffic citation.

 

Economy Run:  An event  in which the Corvette is driven on a public highway requiring that the driver and navigator follow a specified route and other instructions in such a fashion as to achieve the best gas mileage. 

 

Funkhana: Both a driver and  navigator are required.  A timed contest for automobiles designed to test the skill of the driver and navigator; gimmicks are used on an autocross like course.  (NO Excessive speed)

 

Icekhana :  Autocross type of event on any ice covered surface.

 

Drag Race:  A wheel-to-wheel event in which the acceleration capability of the Corvette is determined in the quarter-mile at an established drag racing track (usually NHRA sanctioned).  The NCCC maintains a set of quarter-mile records for some twenty different classes of Corvettes Click for Drag Records

 

Speed Events:

Autocross:  There are two types of autocrosses - LowSpeed and HighSpeed

 

Low Speed:  An event in which the Corvette is driven around a course (not on public highways and not wheel to wheel) at speeds in such a fashion as to set the quickest time for the course; large isolated parking lots and airport runways are often used.  A low speed course must be set up to limit the speed to below 80 mph.

 

High Speed:  An event in which the Corvette is driven on the road-racing circuits (not wheel to wheel) at speeds in such a fashion as to set the quickest time for the circuit.  Tracks have included Mid-Ohio, Grattan, Pocono, Putman  Park, Summit Point, Kershaw, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Daytona, Sebring, Texas Motor Speedway, Roebling Roads, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Michigan International Speedway, and Heartland Park.

 

Time Trials:  An  Autocross where the course (one run) is over one (1) mile in length, such as long road courses.

 

Matching Times (MT):   Acceleration test of at least one-eight (1/8) mile (can be run side by side on a sanctioned drag strip) or a timed run on a autocross course – for consistency. 

 

Matching Time Trial (MTT):  A time run on an autocross course for consistency.  The course (one run) is over one (1) mile in length, such as long road courses.

 

Hill Climb :  Timed acceleration test of at least one-half (1/2) mile in length, up and/or down a hill.

 

Sandkhana :  A low speed event on a beach, sand dune or dirt road.
